Do you want to make art so big it fills a room? Do you like making art about your own life and ideas? If so, this is the class for you! You’ll spend the week collaborating with your classmates on a large-scale drawing about place and memory. After the class, your finished piece will be featured in WMCAT’s gallery for the summer.

Product Design: Remix the Room

Zines Done Quick

ZINES (pronounced: zeen) are small, self-published "magazines' that may contain comics, poetry, drawings, photos, instructions, and really anything and everything! You'll get a chance to make a variety of zines, and the focus will be on hand-drawn and written zines, which are made quickly, working to ignore the fear of making mistakes. If you have ideas, stories, and/or skills to share with others, join us!

Digital Storytelling: From Vision to Video

You’ll be guided through the ideation, production, post-production, and distribution phases of digital storytelling. Whether you want to up your TikTok game, learn about animation, or become the next Spike Lee, this session will give you the foundation for success.

Intro to Digital Illustration

Enhance your traditional pencil and paper techniques with technology. You'll practice sketching on a tablet and use digital tools amp up your illustrations. Basic drawing and computer skills will be helpful, but no prior experience with digital art is required.

Learn to boss your camera around as you explore the basics of photography and composition through interactive activities in and around Grand Rapids' near Westside neighborhood. By the end of the course you will be able to compose and capture shots while shooting manually on a DSLR camera.

Morning Wheel Throwing

Want to get serious about wheel throwing while enjoying the summer mornings? You will spend theweek learning the basics of wheel throwing, have the opportunity to get your hands dirty, and leave with a new set of handmade ceramic ware. Projects include basic bowl and mug forms to a tiered jewelry tower. Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready for pick up 10 days after class ends.

Shibori Summer

If you've ever enjoyed tie-dyeing, you'll love the Japanese art of shibori! Learn how to do several different ties using string, clamps, and even plastic tubes to create unique patterns on your fabric. You'll leave with several multi-functional hand-dyed pieces.
